2010 Marching Band Begins

Well, we have fallen off the face of the earth and have returned to the best of our ability. As we wrap up a wonderful yet crazy year, we take a deep breath and jump right into a new season. It was tough to say goodbye to the six fantastic seniors who contributed so much to our program, but we all know they are heading on to bigger and better things and we wish them the best of luck!

Now for the new, WELCOME! all new members of the Kell Percussion Studio! All of us here at SoundArt Percussion and thrilled to have you on board as you begin your four year journey of high school percussion. Please surf around and get yourself familiar with the site. We will work hard to keep you up to date with all information needed to have a fun and successful year.

If you are uncertain as to the schedule this week, here it is:

Monday and Tuesday - 1-8pm (please bring a sack dinner/lunch)
Wednesday and Thursday - 9am-5pm (Please bring a sack lunch)
* The reason for the 1-8 on Monday and Tuesday is because I am required to attend post planning meetings at Palmer Middle School until 4pm each day. The rest of the staff will rehearse the ensemble from 1-4 and then I will jump in as soon as I can arrive.

Students are asked to wear black or dark shorts and a white T-Shirt (this helps with visual clarity in full ensemble rehearsal)
comfortable footwear (no flip flops please)
A hat of some sort
sunglasses (weather permitting)
Sunblock

Also, please remember to bring the following
1-2 pair of Marching Sticks (please have your name or initials on each stick)
Practice Pad (please properly mark and identify this item)
1 - 2” or larger Three Ring Binder
2 Pencils

Its early this morning so I may have forgotten a few things, don’t worry, that means you get a free pass if you forget as well : )

Again, we are excited to have you on board! This year looks to be another year of progress and musical growth! Have fun and keep practicing!

ACT 4 Music Available

Well, thankfully we have survived this past week with no one being hurt. Our hearts all go out to Chelsea and her family as they deal with the massive flooding that has affected their lives. We also grieve with our director as he and his family morn the loss of his mother.

Given all of the concerns, we will all be there for each other in these times of need and do our best to prepare for our first competition of the season. For those not informed, we will be performing at Chattahoochie High School. I will post a blog about the night hopefully this evening.

Right now, everyone needs to go to their specific section pages to download the pdfs of the final version of the closer.
I did mention that dot charts would also be on the site, but unfortunately I am having difficulty with transferring the documents to the pages. Please get those cards from a drum major and have your dot books properly filled in before tuesday.

Hopefully everyone had a great weekend and I’ll see y’all at practice this evening.

More news concerning the postponed Pope Football game will also be posted once I hear the official word.

Act 1 Music Now Available

As we all watch the timer on the Marching Percussion page click down to the sad end of another wonderful summer, I can’t help but be more than a little excited for the upcoming season (call me a little demented and strange)
With student run sectionals happening virtually every week and a new warm up packet already received, not to mention the new stands have been ordered and will hopefully arrive any day (keep your fingers crossed) this has been a great start to a season that quite frankly...hasn’t even started yet!?
Before I finish packing up my computers and leave this wonderful land of 75 degree weather and 20 percent humidity, I am frantically working hard at transferring everyones parts into a pdf as well as create mp3’s of the music so that you can take a listen prior to our first notes of drum camp on monday.
Even though I plan to get the bulk of music handed out before the night is over, please check back to your section page on sunday or monday morning before arriving to camp. I can guarantee there will be either more music or paperwork you will want to download, print and take to rehearsal first thing monday morning.
As a reminder, please look to arrive at Kell by 8:30am. Most of you have your instruments at home and we will all need to work together to load everything back into Kell and have set up ready for downbeat. As tradition, section leaders will begin running stretches at 9am so we need to be ready to go with instruments assembled by that time. Again, check your section pages for music and check lists so you know what to bring to camp.
As I stated before, I am very excited about these camps and this season. This will be a lot of fun.

Warm Up Sequence ready for download

Hey Everyone!
Congrats on a very successful Car Wash. In just four short and very wet hours, we were able to raise $762.04. I know there is a story concerning the four cents but we wont go there : )
As we are now 18 days away from camp, you will start to see more and more updates to the marching percussion link. The first addition as has been a section specific page. Each section (keyboards, Timpani, Snare, Bass, Tenor, Cymbals) has their own link and page this year. This page will be the location for all information and materials to be handed out. The pages will also act as a resource page for your section and its specific needs.
As always, we want your input to your specific page. Please help us by providing photos, links, suggestions... pretty much anything that can help make you page more helpful as well as more interesting.
We will be having a section challenge where the section with the most interesting/creative and educational will be awarded a prize to be determined by you guys (more info on that later)

If you are in the battery, please download your warm up sequence and begin practicing today. Cymbals, your warmup is not finished yet, our goal is to have it finished and available within the next few days.

CAR WASH!

THE Water Ban HAS BEEN LIFTED YEEAHHH!
This is great news as we are still working hard to try to purchase $2100 worth of battery Stadium Series Stands (check out the link here)
VERY IMPORTANT!!
Thanks to Kevin Bates and Susi Fraser, we have been allowed to conduct two Car Washes to help raise money.

The first car wash is THIS COMING SATURDAY!! (June 20th from 10am-2pm) the Car Wash will be held in the parking lot located next to the Wendy’s restaurant off of Shallowford Road (in the Home Depot Plaza near Lassiter H.S.) All Percussionists still in town and without prior responsibilities are expected to participate. Family or fellow band members are encouraged and welcome to help. If there is a conflict (and given the short notice we expect there to be conflicts), please contact Mr. D so we can plan who will be in attendance. (soundartpercussion@att.net)

We will need your help with supplies: Towels, sponges, soap, towels, buckets, towels (did we mention towels)
If you are not sure what else you can bring, please let us know
